CBF Corporate Member Q&A - Glenside Commercials

Caerphilly Business Forum exists to serve the interests of business from every sector throughout the region, and as a non-profit organisation we depend on the continued support of our sponsors and partners. But we want to do more.

We are committed to ensuring that each and every member is seen, heard and connected. We want to make it easier for our partners to find new opportunities to work with other businesses within the region. In doing so, we can all benefit.

Our new Corporate Membership package provides business with a wealth of benefits that will get their brand in front of the people they want to do business with most. For more information on how Corporate Membership will support your business, please go to http://www.cbforum.co.uk/membership

The Forum is delighted to announce that Glenside Commercials have become a Corporate Member for 2017/18 – a continuation of our long-standing relationship with the company.

Who are Glenside Commercials?

Glenside Commercials is South East Wales’ main distributor for both IVECO and FIAT Professional commercial vehicles. We are also the main dealer for Carrier Transicold Southern. As well as new vehicle sales, we offer a range of services to commercial vehicle operators of all sizes, including maintenance, repairs, testing and calibration and 24-hour breakdown cover. We’ve been in business in Caerphilly since 1993 and now employ 95 people.

How do you help local businesses?

We try to use local businesses wherever possible in our supply chain as it’s important to us to support the local economy. Nearly all our employees are from the Caerphilly area and we regularly support their requests for help with local charities and schools. As a business, we believe it’s our responsibility to work with local educators. All too often the business community is quick to complain about the lack of skills they perceive in school leavers, but they don’t try to help make a difference.

Glenside Commercials works closely with Careers Wales and Business in the Community and is involved in ‘Business Class’, an initiative pairing business with local schools. We are currently working with Lewis Girls School which both the school and our staff find extremely rewarding.

How has being part of the Caerphilly business region benefitted you?

Caerphilly is a great place to do business. There are good links to both the A470 and the M4 for ease of access for our customers. We have been able to build a good working relationship with the local council, who have always been very supportive of our business.

Because of the growth of the business, a few years back we decided to look for larger premises. We were keen to remain in the Caerphilly area to avoid upheaval to both customers and staff, so it took some time. But, in August 2012, we bought some land at the top of Bedwas House Industrial Estate where we were able to build a new site specifically to our design.

Why is Caerphilly Business Forum important to you?

Glenside Commercials has been a member of Caerphilly Business Forum for a long time. We believe it’s really important to be a part of the local business community.

Businesses need a strong voice in order to be heard, and the Forum provides a great platform for businesses in the area to get their views and concerns in front of the relevant authority.
